Bhargava Chiluveru’s debut exhibition opens Nov. 14th

"Atlanta-based artist and creative director Bhargava Chiluveru is proud to announce his debut solo exhibition A?Surreal World.?Featuring fifty artworks created during his global travels over a five-year period, the one-night-only exhibition takes place November 14, 2015, at the new Alkaloid Networks space in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward.

“This is a visual art show rather than a traditional photography exhibit,” says Chiluveru. “I’ve digitally manipulated each of my photographs to affect mood and alter perception. By expanding the dynamic range of the images past what the human eye can see, my intent is to induce a surreal experience.”

Born in Hyderabad, India in 1985, Chiluveru grew up the son of an advertising director in a household with a rare asset: a computer. Youthful experimentation in Photoshop proved to Bhargava the malleability of images. At age 13, his family moved to the United States. While attending Georgia State University, he worked as a designer/photo-editor and learned how to present an idealized reality. After a short run in the corporate world, Chiluveru founded his agency Chil Creative in 2013.

Chiluveru’s manipulated photographs have been displayed at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, in #weloveatl mobile galleries, and on the front page of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. DiscoverATL highlighted his work in their Best of Atlanta 2014 list. This year, he was recognized as Creative Loafing’s Best of ATL Fine Art Photographer, an award he shared with co-recipient Lauren Holley.

Technically a solo show, A Surreal World will also showcase the work of Holley and other forward-thinking artists. “We’re lucky to live in a city that embraces photography,” Chiluveru says. “Atlanta Photography Group, Atlanta Celebrates Photography, and #weloveatl all do an incredible job providing platforms for young artists in our city. I want to celebrate that by inviting other artists to show their work alongside mine.”

Chiluveru also intends A Surreal World to be accessible from a purchase point. Select exhibition artworks will be for sale for under twenty dollars. “There will be higher-end offerings too, but I want everyone to be able to take something home,” he explains.

In addition to images from Chiluveru’s global travels, A Surreal World features a room specially dedicated to images of Atlanta. Residents will have a chance to look at their city in a manner seldom seen. On that note: Welcome to A Surreal World.
