Alyssa Coppelman

Alyssa Coppelman is an Independent Photo Editor with over a decade of experience, primarily as Assistant Art Director of Harper’s Magazine. She still regularly does picture research for them and Oxford American Magazine. Alyssa is a regular contributor to WIRED Photo and has written for Slate’s Behold blog, Feature Shoot, and Hatje Cantz’s fotoblog. She has judged for Flash Forward, Critical Mass, and Slideluck Austin VI, and has reviewed portfolios at Fotofest Houston, PhotoNOLA, and Photolucida. Working one-on-one with photographers, Alyssa edits and sequences portfolios and photo books, helping them present their strongest work in the most cohesive way.

Alyssa is most interested in seeing documentary and fine art photography. Print and digital portfolios are both acceptable, as are books and book mock-ups. She is less interested in commercial and fashion photography, though she is open to seeing any work demonstrating a thoughtful approach. For photographers wishing to develop relationships with magazines, she can advise how best to approach potential clients. Several photographers she was introduced to via online contests and portfolio reviews have been published in Harper’s and Oxford American, and featured on WIRED Photo, Feature Shoot, and Slate.
